On one occasion on the high seas, among the crew of a ship, there was a sailor who, because he was a believer, a newly converted one, was the subject of insults and mockery from his colleagues.
One fine day, the captain of the ship, gathering the sailors on deck, picked up a spyglass and, from one side to the other, began to look at the horizon. He looked and looked until the sailors, curious, wanted to know what it was about. Then the captain, taking his eyes off the spyglass, turned to the believing sailor and said to him:
-I looked in all directions. I looked and got tired of looking, but I couldn't see God.
Then the sailor, standing up, took the Bible, and opening it to the book of Mt, chapter 5, verse 8, read this rare gem from the Beloved Master:
"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God".
That captain could never see God. The evils of his sin left him in darkness, to the point of being unable to see God and worship Him in spirit and in truth.
Such sins not only prevent God from hearing our prayers and extending His hands to bless us, but also prevent our own vision of spiritual things.
It is no wonder that there are many people who, groping spiritually, live completely blind.
