I believe that youth is the phase most full of uncertainties that we have to live through.
Major choices that will change the course of our lives must be made in this turbulent period: whether we will follow the religious practices of our parents, which profession we will draw our families' livelihood from, the choice of our spouses, among others.
Choices which, as especially in the last example, we relegate the mission to our deceitful heart and many for this reason end up experiencing the consequences of these bad choices throughout their lives. But these sentimental matters of the fallacious heart will remain for another article.
I want to draw attention to the dangers of this phase in which many young Christians end up losing their faith because they do not know how to deal with these choices and because they are impatient when, in our time, they seem to take long to happen.
That youth is a phase of choices and that we have to live it is evident and there is no one in perfect psychological state who does not wish thus. So, how to try to minimize these anguishes? How must we, young Christians, proceed to make the most of this phase? First and without doubt the most important of the answers is found in the book of Psalms: “How shall a young man cleanse his way?
By observing it according to your word. Psalm 119:9”, knowing that in the word of God there is much wise counsel that guides us in the choices of this phase, why not obey? Many suffer for not heeding the word of God.
I have noticed that many young people who have embraced the faith sometimes find themselves discouraged because they think that the lack of a good job, the lack of a boyfriend or girlfriend and other achievements of the youthful phase make them less loved by God and they feel even despised for not having their prayers answered. Is it wrong for us to have these moments of melancholy?
It is evident that it is not, we are human and endowed with feelings, but what we cannot forget is that we have a path to follow and that the steps we take are ours and very often we only complain and do not strive to begin the walk, doing our part.
When we strive to the maximum and even so things still do not happen the way we planned we must have the conviction that everything works together for the good of those who love God (And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, for those who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28) and that we have to make the best of life, even though we go through moments that do not please us.
Knowing that our life is made by choices and actions, entrust your way to the Lord and trust in him (Psalm 37:5) and you will pass through this phase “of uncertainty” planting seeds that will delight you with their good fruits throughout your life.
