A Christian doctor was reading his Bible sitting on a bench in the plaza, when a man approached and, recognizing the doctor, said:
- I can't believe that you, with your education, can read and believe in a book like this!
- Why? Asked the doctor.
- Because we don't even know who wrote this book. I don't believe in something when I don't even know who wrote it.
The doctor looked intently at the man and asked him:
- Do you believe in and use the multiplication table?
- Yes. I use it frequently.
Do you know who wrote the multiplication table?
- No, I don't know, replied the unbeliever.
- Then how is it that you believe in and use something when you don't even know who wrote it? The doctor asked him.
The embarrassed man had a brilliant idea and answered:
- It's because the multiplication table works, and everybody knows this.
- My friend, said the doctor, the Bible also works very well. And I could show you hundreds of people whose lives have been changed by the Word of God. His teachings are life for those who place them in their hearts.
