I thank the brothers who are participating in this column through my e-mail, expressing their opinions, giving suggestions and suggesting topics. At the request of Pastor Joabe Messias of the church in Igaraçu do Tiete - SP, I will expose in the light of the sacred scriptures why the prohibition of tattoos, something that many organizations accept saying they are in agreement with the will of God.
We can see in the Word of God at least two objective texts that deal with the subject:
"So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." Genesis 1:27.
Here we see that man, the crown of God's creation, was made "in his image and likeness". Thus, he does not need complements on his body, for he has already been made similar to the most perfect Being in the universe. Making some kind of mark that changes this image and that brings pain to what is considered the "temple of the Holy Spirit" (see I Corinthians 3:16-17, 6:19-20) is to demonstrate that you are not content with your image (similar to God's) and to disrespect God.
"You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks upon you. I am the LORD." Leviticus 19:28.
On this text the church in times of restoration positions itself that this practice is unworthy of God's people for it tends to damage the image of the Creator".
Young people in restoration, just like the apostle Paul, the only marks we should bear in ourselves are those in favor of Christ: "As for the rest, let no one trouble me; for I bear in my body the marks of Jesus." Galatians 6:17.
